Emma's German Chocolate Cake

This is the recipe for the famous german chocolate cake from the Ward home, loved by family and friends.


Cake:
4 eggs, beaten
2 cup sugar
1 scant cup Crisco
1 cup buttermilk
1 tbls vanilla
1 tsp salt
1 (4 oz) pkg German sweet chocolate
1/2 cup boiling water
2 1/2 cups flour
1 tsp baking soda
Icing:
1 can eagle brand
1 1/2 cupa sugar
1 stick margarine or butter
3 beaten egg yolks
1 cup flake coconut
1 cup pecans, chopped
1 tbls vanilla

Dissolve the chocolate in the boiling water.

Mix the sugar and crisco together. Then add buttermilk and baking soda. Mix in chocolate mixture. Add flour and mix. Bake at 350 for 30 minutes.

Icing: Cook until thick about 10 minutes then add coconut, chopped nuts and vanilla.
