Extraordinary Chocolate Chip Cookies

Here's a very good sounding chocolate chip cookie recipe from Emma Ward's recipe file.

1 1/2 butter or margarine, softened
1 1/4 cups sugar
1 1/4 cups packed brown sugar
1 tbls vanilla
2 eggs
4 cups all-purpose flour
2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1 (24 oz) bag semisweet chocolate chips

Heat oven to 350 degree. In a large bowl, beat butter, sugar, brown sugar, vanilla, and eggs until light and fluffy. Stir in the flour, baking soda, and salt. The dough will be stiff. Now stir in the chocolate chips.

On an ungreased cookie sheet, drop the dough by the tablespoon (or a #40 ice cream scoop) 2 inches apart. Flatten slightly.

Bake for 11 to 13 minutes, until light brown (the centers will still be soft). Let cool for 1 to 2 minutes before removing the cookies from the baking sheet, and place on a cooling rack.
