Garlic-Herb Bread
( Back to Cookbook Main Menu | Back to Breads | Back to Baked Bread )

This is our favorite bread recipe for use with the bread machine. I would say the 9 time out of 10 when Anna uses the bread machine, this is the bread that we are making. This will fill the house with a wonderful garlicky and herby aroma, and have people hovering over the bread machine. The bread is great just by itself when it is still warm and steaming, or with spread with butter. It also makes a great grill cheese.

1 1/4 cup water
1 tbls butter or margarine
2 cloves garlic, minced
3 1/4 cup bread flour
2 tbls sugar
1 1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp dried rosemary
1/4 tsp dried whole thyme
1/4 tsp dried basil
1 1/2 tsp yeast

Combine all the liquid ingredients and add them to the bread pan.

Combine all the dry ingredients, except for the yeast, and add them to the bread pan.

Use your fingers and form a well in the flour and dry ingredients. Then pour the yeast into this well (the yeast must never come into contact with the liquid ingredients when adding it to the bread machine pan).

Snap the baking pan into place in the bread maker, and close the lid. Press the "Select" button to choose the Basic setting. Press the "Crust Color" button to choose your preferred crust setting. Finally press the "Start" button. Remove the finished loaf from the machine with done, and enjoy.
